Exterior car detailing is the process of cleaning, restoring, and protecting the exterior surfaces of a vehicle. It involves a thorough cleaning of the car’s paint, wheels, tires, and other exterior components to enhance its appearance and protect it from environmental elements such as UV rays, dirt, and debris.
The exterior car detailing process typically includes the following steps:
- Washing: The first step is to wash the car’s exterior using a high-pressure washer to remove any dirt, debris, or grime that may be present on the surface. The wheels and tires are also cleaned to remove any brake dust or other contaminants.
- Drying: After washing, the car is dried using specialized towels to prevent water spots and streaks from forming on the paint.
- Clay Bar Treatment: The next step is to use a clay bar to remove any contaminants that may be present on the surface of the paint, such as tree sap or bird droppings.
- Waxing/Sealing: The final step is to apply a protective wax or sealant to the paint to protect it from environmental elements such as UV rays, dirt, and debris. This step also creates a deep, glossy shine that enhances the car’s appearance.
Exterior car detailing has several benefits. Firstly, it enhances the appearance and value of the car by restoring the paint to its original condition. Secondly, it protects the paint from environmental elements such as UV rays, dirt, and debris, which can cause damage over time. Lastly, it creates a protective barrier that makes it easier to clean the car in the future.
I perform the following work during an exterior detail job:
Apply a pre-rinse aid to loosen up grit and grime prior to pressure washing rinse
Pressure wash dirt and grime off prior to soaping.
Spray wheel and tire cleaner, meticulously scrub inside and out of wheels, clean off dirt from tires and fender liners. Double wash if/as needed.
Rinse and hand wash entire body of vehicle with two wash bucket method (and separate one for wheels/tire).
Chemical iron decontamination spray as needed to remove rail dust, brake dusts
Hand clay bar entire painted surfaces of vehicle. This helps remove bonded contaminants and dirt that don’t come off during regular wash service.
Blow dry entire vehicle, spray streak-free window cleaner on outside of windows as well.
Apply plastic restore, tire shine to applicable exterior parts of vehicle, apply wax, wipe excess off. I am able to do an exterior detail whether it is raining or not, I just am not able to apply any tire shine or traditional wax spray product or quick ceramic spray. I have an alternative spray and rinse protection I can apply after the wash if it is raining out.
The traditional wax I apply is good for 3-6 months of protection depending on the proper maintenance kept up on the car or not.
Starts at $150 large, lifted trucks, extended vans, or large 3rd row SUV’s $35 more. Extremely muddy/dirty vehicles price can increase as well. RV’s or travel trailers are separately quoted on a case-by-case basis.
What is a car wax?
Car wax is a protective coating that is applied to the surface of a car’s paint to enhance its shine and protect it from various elements such as UV rays, dirt, and debris. Wax creates a barrier between the paint surface and the environment, preventing damage and preserving the car’s appearance.
There are different types of car wax available in the market, including natural wax, synthetic wax, and ceramic wax. Natural wax is made from carnauba wax, which is a plant-based wax that provides a deep, glossy shine to the car’s paint. Synthetic wax, on the other hand, is made from polymers and resins and is known for its durability and long-lasting protection. Ceramic wax is a relatively new type of wax that uses nanotechnology to bond with the paint surface, creating a durable and hydrophobic layer that repels water and contaminants.
Car wax provides several benefits, including:
- Protection: Wax creates a protective layer that shields the paint from environmental elements, such as UV rays, dirt, and debris.
- Enhanced shine: Wax enhances the appearance of the car by providing a deep, glossy shine that reflects light.
- Easy cleaning: Wax makes it easier to clean the car by creating a smooth surface that repels dirt and water.
- Preserves value: Regular waxing can help preserve the value of the car by maintaining its appearance and protecting the paint from damage.
